Glazed Cranberry Orange Muffins

I made these muffins because I was feeling too lazy to make my famous scones, but wanted a similar kind of breakfast item to bring with us camping. I hate being lazy. Especially when preparing for camping. My scones aren’t even really hard, just more difficult than dumping everything in a bowl, then into a muffin pan. Which is all the work these delightful treats require.

Orange Creamsicle Cookies

What’s orange and white and delicious all over? Ok. Besides candy corn. Creamsicles!! Fresh orange sherbet with creamy vanilla ice cream. Cold and melty and just perfect. For summer. So why am I making a creamsicle cookie in the midst of a snow threat? Well, it’s simple really. During the winter I keep my house at around 65 degrees (if you are cold, put a sweater on!), which means as much as I love it, I don’t eat much ice cream. Brrrrr! Sure, I could turn the heat up like a normal person, and indulge in a frosty treat instead of frosty breath, but I think I’m hard-wired to be a crazy-control-freak about the thermostat. It just kills me to turn it up even a couple of degrees. We wear a lot of socks and slippers around here.  Not to fear! These soft puffy cookies with my favorite summery flavors packed inside warmed me right up. They were like warm sunshine and the sound of children splashing in a pool.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Why is it things called “loaf” are usually disgusting? Pimento loaf? Olive loaf? <shudder> Those hunks of oddly studded meat at the deli give me the heebie-jeebies. Today I made a loaf of deliciousness that is completely un-gross. Actually, it is exquisite. Beautifully flavored with slightly sweet orange and temptingly tart cranberries, this gorgeous bread is just divine.

Double Chocolate Orange Truffles

When I was working my first job at a local Hallmark store, my biggest temptation were the bags of White Chocolate Orange Truffles at the front of the store. They were made by Seattle Chocolates, and they were fantastic. Creamy white chocolate with a hint of orange flavoring. Mmmmmm. I’m making little treats for a ladies luncheon at my church this weekend and decided to do my best recreation of the truffles I adore. But, since I didn’t want to hand dip over 100 truffles, I shaved a Terry’s Chocolate Orange with my microplane zester (one of my most favorite kitchen tools) and rolled the truffles in that. Viola. Double Chocolate Orange Truffles.

Wassail

A trick-or-treating tradition in our family is to have a mug of this spicy pungent warm-you-to-the-bones liquid upon returning from gathering candy. Also made tonight – Mom’s Tortellini Soup, Applesauce Drop Doughnuts, Simple Caramel Apples and Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting.

More scones

As per most get-togethers, I was asked to bring my scones to this weekend’s bridal shower. However, there was some discussion as to which variety. My two sisters wanted chocolate chip as well as blueberry scones. But my nanny and mom are partial to the cranberry orange version. So – I made all three. Since I’ve already posted shots of the chocolate chip & blueberry in my post of the main recipe for these scones – here’s just a photo of the  cranberry orange. Zest of one orange and 1 c dried cranberries. Glaze of fresh squeezed orange juice, zest and powdered sugar.
