I really enjoy making drinks with my own spin on them. I also love anything I can make in a giant batch and bring to a party. I have a to-go container with a lid that I bring along with me to add a little cheer wherever I’m going. It holds almost a gallon of happy. This is one of my favorite beverages to liven up a get-together. And, since it’s clear, I don’t have to concern myself that someone might spill and ruin carpet or upholstery. Aren’t I a considerate guest?
You can find white cranberry juice right alongside the normal red cranberry juice. Apparently, cranberries that aren’t fully ripe (harvested early before turning red) are sweeter than their fully grown friends. Which, I don’t really understand. Doesn’t fruit normally get sweeter as it ripens? Odd. Also, did you know cranberries are grown in bogs? I didn’t. Anyway, the white cranberry juice is sweet and lacks the lip puckering tartness of regular cran. Ocean Spray makes the white stuff. I don’t know if anyone else does.
Add some vodka, triple sec and a little lime and you have yourself a perfectly clear, delightfully sweet version of a traditional cosmopolitan. If you have any guys in your life who won’t touch a pink hued cosmo, this is a great drink to make. They can pretend it’s a martini, but still enjoy the deliciousness of a cosmo. A warning though if you’re thinking of making a batch to bring it ready-made to a party. Do NOT tell anyone where the bucket is so they can help themselves. Two reasons. #1: Your batch will be gone before you get a second drink. #2: These are deceptively sweet. Folks won’t know what potent stuff this is until after they’ve served themselves too many. And then it’ll be too late to save them. Not that I have any personal knowledge of something like that happening…just sayin’.
Clear Cosmos
a Bakerlady Original – makes 2 large cocktails
8 ounces vodka
4 ounces triple sec
4 ounces white cranberry juice
squeeze of lime juice (about 1/2 lime)
Fill a cocktail shaker half full of ice. Add all ingredients, squeeze the lime juice in and then add the half lime to the shaker. Cover and shake vigorously until well chilled. Serve in large martini glasses.
